Ski Apache is the nation’s southernmost major ski resort and we are always prepared to make up shortfalls in natural snow. The Mountain has one of the most sophisticated snowmaking operations in the country and when Mother Nature fails to heed the call, the snowmaking crews at Ski Apache work the night shift in freezing temperatures covering the Mountain in a hail of man-made snow. Snowmaking crews can apply water additives to create and apply snow even above 32 degrees. Here are the statistics from an average night of snowmaking:
Operations involve a 14 person full-time snowmaking crew.
150 different snowmaking guns, cannons
and related pieces of equipment employed.
Water retention ponds utilized to recapture
and re-use run off.
